I saw the artist:
-It was amazing how they made the actors look like they were stars from the 20's (the girl looked a little modern at the beginning, though...I can't exactly say how)
-It got you thinking about Silent films
-It's neat seeing a modern film done silently...a nice change. (It made me want to make a silent film...!)
-2 Favorite scenes: One where the main character dreams about sound ruining him (here they played around with the sound...everyone/thing was making noises except for him)
Trivia:
The whole movie spans about 5 years; about 1/20th of the history of film (interesting!)
I loved The Artist. The dream sequence is one of the most brilliant things ever committed to film. Devastating!
ReplyDeletePeppi Miller for some reason never looked truly like a girl from that time to me. It's funny how you have a similar reaction. When I think back to actresses from that time.... it seems they all have smaller mouths or milder features - Bérénice Bejo is a lovely woman, but... too strong a face? Too distinctive looking? Too modern looking? Dujardin, on the other hand, OOZED charm. God, what a likable human being! I don't think anyone else could have pulled that film off — he carries that movie from beginning to the end. Great performance, totally deserving of the Oscar.
